Data sources for Master data and Transactional data

Hi Experts,

We are using CRM5.0 version. We want to create Target group based on the data from Business Partner record and from Transactions.

As part the above scenario we want to consider BP created date as one of the attribute and Transaction status as other attribute.

Now we would like to understand what data source has to take for BP created date attribute and what data source has to take for Transaction status.

When we were going through help.sap.com, we found that BI cubes will be used for retreive data from Transactions.

and Info set will be used for retreive data from Master data like BP etc.

Is that above statement correct?

I appreciate if anybody let me understand what datasources are suitable for our scenario.
