Save Query To A Role Vs. Publish Query To A Role

Hey Gurus,

Can anybody tell me the difference between "Save Query To A Role Vs. Publish Query To A Role". Will both work same or what is the big difference?

Hi Recca,

*Save Query To A Role*

To save a query you need to have a role ,to have role you need to have a separate user name with u r profile, can be assigned with one single user and that should be assigned with some roles ..if u dont have a role ask basis consultant to create role ,so that u can assign queries to a role.

*Publish To Role*

The "Publish to Role" make an entry in your role ! Then the end-user can launch directly a query via the role (according in which role they are member) ! They can see their role via sap-gui or via the web (adding a web item menu in a template).

With the pfcg transaction you can see this entry in the role that you choose ...

In BI7.0 version you can open ur query using BEx web and add to BEx portfolio or My Portfolio where you can place it in a KM folder.If the user is subscribed to that KM document they open the report.In Bi7.0 u have to upload ABAP roles to portal(JAVA) roles and maintained single sign on.when the user executes query in the portal it doesnt ask to login again.

Thanks all for your replies. Your replies actually clarify my question. I have also found out that if you save a query in a role, the users will never be able to see the queries in other to lunch it. But if you publish it, it is visible right away. It think the save in a role is just used to save a query that has already been published before, and you are just making a change.

You also have to publish the queries is all environments separately. Transports won't help carry this forward.

Publish to a role is used to publish it in the portal roles, whereas Save in Role will only save to roles visible through BEx
