TREX Admin Tool (Stand-Alone)

Hello-

I am new to the forums, so if I am posting in a wrong area please let me know so I can correct this; thanks in advance for your patience.

Now the question. I am interested in using the TREX Admin Tool (Stand-Alone) to manage our multiple TREX 7.0 and TREX 7.1 systems. Can anyone tell me where I go in the market place to download this tool and any links to the documentation on this tool.

I have already found SAP Note 766516 and the following link on help.sap.com on the subject:

Has anyone ever had experience using Trex Admin Tool (Stand-Alone) on TREX 7.0 or TREX 7.1 environments? I'm still not able to find any place to download this from the SAP download center.

Hi Nathan,

the Python based TREX admin tool (stand-alone) is part of the TREX 7.0/7.1 installation. You do not need to download it seperately, when you have downloaded and installed TREX. Note that also a transaction TREXADMIN exist by which you can start the ABAP based version of the TREX admin tool in the SAP System if you are using TREX by an ABAP application via RFC.

There will be also an admin docu about using TREX 7.1 by NW 7.0 applications. This docu will be available on SAP Help Portal as of NW 7.0 SP14 during January.

Hi Ralph-

Thank you for the helpful links and answer to my question. From what you are saying, we have been using the TREX Admin Tool (stand alone) all along when we log on to the server and run the GUI version of TREX Admin Tool as opposed to running the TREXADMIN transaction via the SAPGUI.

The additional question we have is this: Can we administer a TREX server using the GUI TREX Admin Tool (stand alone) on a system other than the server on which TREX is installed (such as a workstation?)

Hi Nathan,

you need at least a TREX installation on a server to use the TREX admin tool (stand-alone). You can not use the TREX admin tool seperately and without TREX installed.

But you can access other TREX servers: see http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/b0/432241c20af16fe10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm for "Connecting the TREX Admin Tool to a Remote System":

1. Choose Options --> Select Name Server.

2. Choose Remote.

3. Enter the address of a name server belonging to the remote system. Confirm your entry.

4. Enter the user name and password for the remote system. Confirm your entry.

Please mind the prerequisites.
