Using Outlook PST file as source in SAP Data Services

Hi,

Has anyone successfully used an Outlook PST file as source in SAP Data Services?

The PAM says it is supported from 4.2 SP07 but I couldn't see any guides on how it is done.

Thanks,

Mike

    Hi Akhilesh,

Thanks for your reply. I can see that would work for a manual workaround. However, SAP are now stating there is native functionality in Data Services to directly read from a PST file (see attached).

This is what I was hoping to use but there are no examples or guidance I can find.

    Thanks,

    Mike

Hope you are doing good. I have extracted data from an outlook email message but not sure about the whole PST folder. Logically the PST folder contains emails in the form of binary files. You can create a unstructured binary File format and then use it to extract data.

In the data flow, you can use a Text Data Processing transform such as Entity Extraction to process unstructured binary data

Below is an excerpt from Data Services Designer Guide under section 6.10 Unstructured Binary File Formats

Dirk Venken , Kindly need your valuable inputs/suggestions

An Unstructured Binary File Format contains a blob column. In DS you can only do 2 things with a blob:

    1. Pass it to the ouput (a file or database table)
    2. Feed it into the Enity_Exraction transform for text processing

    Hi Dirk,

    Thanks for your response.

I was thinking that an unstructured binary file with entity_extraction transform was an option but not sure how you would pass the credentials to be able to unencrypt the contents.

All I can see is that you would be able store an encrypted blob field which is of no value.

Not sure what SAP intended when they added PST files to the officially supported file formats. I have logged a ticket with SAP but didn't get a response, I'm guessing no-one in support knows either.

    Thanks,

    Mike
