How do I create a variable that provides data on daily basis?

I am building a report that displays the volume by status on requests for each day of the month. I'm using SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 4.1 Support Pack 8 Version: 14.1.8.2060.

I am able to display the number of submitted requests and the number of closed requests that occurred on each day of the month but I am having trouble creating a variable that would display the number of open requests that were left on each day.

For example:
Month: October
Day: 2 3 4 5...
# of Tickets left Open: 8 10 7 9...
