ABAP UME DataSource as Active Directory

We are in process of upgrading SAP ERP 6.04 to 6.18 with NW 7.5. As a part of this upgrade we are also migrating our ESS/MSS from SAP Portal Java 7.02 to SAP ABAP WebDynpro. Currently SAP Portal UME is AD and for SAP ABAP it is separate IDs.

As ESS/MSS is externally available and to reduce confusion we would like to configure ABAP with Microsoft AD including password sync so users can logon to SAP ABAP Webdynpro ESS/MSS as their network logon.

Do we have to have NW SSO? I looked at several configuration document but so far no luck.

Thanks,

Miral.

Hi Miral,

I think you can probably achieve this without having to buy NW SSO (since you didn't specify that Single Sign-On was a requirement, just user/password synchronization, or perhaps LDAP authentication to AD), but by using NW Identity Management. We haven't installed this (yet) in our shop, so I can't speak to personal experience, but I've added this tag to your question (and some others that seem relevant) so the IDM experts can weigh in.

I'm curious what you come up with, as we'd like to do something like this in the near future. We recently did much the same upgrade as you, except we haven't yet converted our ESS/MSS from WDJ to WDA (or better). We have our Portal using the ABAP system as the UME source.

Cheers,
Matt
