Can anybody tell what is handling unit and where we use it ?

Hi Sachin

Handling unit is nothing but is a container of a particular material.

For example Consider the case of warehouse management, you have to pack the material (say bolts) in Box. One Box can have 10 bolts. (This quantity of material (bolt) / Packing unit (Box) you can define in packing determination :Use transactions POP1, POF1 to define packing material and packing determinatio sequence).

So when you are sending the material out thru delivery, you will pack first.

If the handling unit management is active, the system will automatically pack it as a handling unit (each box containg bolt is a handling unit) as per your instruction and assign one unique code for that.

Hope this clarifies your doubt in general terms.

Hi,

A handling unit is a physical unit that consists of the packaging materials (load carrier / packaging material) and the goods contained therein. A handling unit is always a combination of materials and packaging materials. All the information contained in the material items, such as batches and serial numbers, is always available by way of the handling units.

The handling unit object contains the following attributes:

Identification number

Dimensions

Weight

Volume

Status

Materials and quantities

Packaging materials

Packing instructions

Hnadling Unit is used in WM .

Hnadling unit is a master data which consists of packaging material.

1HU consists of one or more packaging material.

packaging material can pack one or more materials.

In case of Warehouse management we are using HU.

HU is used for moving material from one place to another.
