BW on HANA connection with BO ( Relational vs OLAP)

We are on BW 7.5 on HANA a new system. We are not using BEX.

We want to use ADSO/Composite Providers directly in reporting .

What is best in performance OLAP or relational?

As relational connection needs Calculation views from ADSO to be build in HANA studio and then use then in BO IDT steps as Connection , data Foundation and Universe build up.

Is there a way to expedite and Universe avoidance possible in newer BW on HANA.

Can we use better Adhoc query features in WEBI and avoid merge dimensions ( our users are less technical ) ?

Any insights and limitation of the either solution faced will be highly appreciated.

Thanks

Mukesh

Hi Mukesh,

There is no direct connectivity to avoid the universe as backend is not a BW query. For Merge dimension either join the tables using join condition or used derived table concept in universe so it will not be headache for user to used merge dimension at report level.

So , we should do relational Connection only?

I read OLAP connection now can access ADSOs and Composite providers and we pre-join BW ADSOs in Composite Provider we can directly report on them ..is that correct?

Or just relational Connection is option?

Yes. There is no direct option to connect OLAP to ADSO's and Composite providers. so you have to used relational connection or you can used direct BICS connection on bex queries.
