Need Help. required to enter Database PW / Session UserID etc in order to run/refresh reports

Hi. I have been using Crystal Reports for many years. I have version Crystal Reports 2008. I have many many reports written that I use and they all basically access an excel file database on my computer. I have been doing this for years without any problems.

All of a sudden, yesterday I tried to open some reports and refresh them and a screen comes up that wants info on the connection. the window is titled Access/Excel (DAO). It lists the path to my excel file and defaults to Excel 8.0. Not sure if this 8.0 is correct if this is a default and/or if this is what it has always said. I never had to go through this screen before. But now, it won't let me run or refresh or make changes to my reports because I get stuck on this screen. As far as I know I did not change anything on my computer. I can still open my excel files by opening them in excel. they are not pw protected or anything. I am on Windows 7 home premium for the OS on my pc. Possibly a windows update or something may have changed this/caused this to happen??

I don't know why it needs the info now it never did before. I really really need to be able to access and run my reports. Can anyone help me with this? Thank you very much.

    Hi Steve,

What version of Excel do you have? Is it 32 or 64 bit? This usually happens if the report can't open the Excel file for some reason. Either the xls file has moved or Office was updated and you are using 64 bit Office now.

Crystal can only work with the 32 bit Office drivers. If you have 64 bit Office installed, you'll need to reinstall the 32 bit database drivers.

Have a look at this link for more info on where to download the drivers from:

Are you able to create a new report with your Excel files? This will help determine if the problem is the driver or not. If you can then the problem is probably not with the driver and your file. The we can check things like permissions and make sure you Excel file is still working.

Hi Brian, thanks for the help. I suspect this is the problem. I did try to create a new report from an excel file and I do run into the same issue - can't get past that connection screen.

I downoaded the access 2010 database engine from the link you provided. I dl the file AccessDatabaseEngine.exe which apparently is the 2010 access database engine according to that link you provided. I did the install from a command prompt as explained - I went to a command window and went into the download directory and put this: "accessdatabaseengine.exe/passive". It installed. I restarted my computer. I am still getting the same problem. Anyone have any solution for this? Thanks.
