How do you define a "close-by data center" when setting up the system replication

Hi:

Recently I'm being asked by a customer if they can change the replication mode of tier2-tier3 from async to sync as it's been supported from SPS12 and any detail spec. I checked the administration guide and the definition is you can configure tier2-tier3 with sync when "Tier 3 is used for disaster recovery in a second close-by data center." But how do we definite "close-by data center"? Any detail spec or limitation? Like how far is it between tier2 and tier3? And any network bandwidth limitation?

Thanks

Steven

Synchronous replication only supports distances of up to 100 km. Async should be used for distances over 100kms.

A simple google search brought me here, which lists all the limitations.
