Material Substituion - How to pull the correct material

Hello Experts,

We are encountering an issue with Material Substitution not pulling the correct material in this example below:

We have GENERIC material with a shelf life expiring 11/30/08, and a receipt date of 11/30/07. We have PROMO material with a shelf life of 12/5/08 with a receipt date of 12/5/07.

What is happening is that it is pulling the oldest material first and not the PROMO material. Can you advise what we would need to do to get it to pull the PROMO material?

    Dear John,

    This can be addressed through Batch management.In this case,you need to have a same material code and can have different batches(external/internal) while receiving the material with a define Shelf life.Based on the shelf life define and batch search strategy the batches can be pulled.
