Networker saves one log file after another

Hello,

our logfile backup runs extremly long when we have several logfiles to backup. The problem is that the logfile uses a pipe and after the data is transfered over the pipe, the networker process starts and backs up the file.

When the file is completely saved - after 10 Minutes for loading the tape, saving etc. - the next log file is processing.

Is it possible to bundle all available logfiles in the pipe to save all logfiles within one backup session?

Every logfile size is about 28 MB. We're running MaxDB 7.5.0 Build 035 unter HP-UX 11. Our Legato Networker Version is 7.00

Best Regards

Kilian

Hi Killian,

it´s not recommended to backup logs to a pipe because the backup process will always return "sucessfull", even if it´s not...

I suggest, backup them to the harddisk and configure networker to not take the pipe but the filesystem, this will be much faster.

Any reason why your logfiles are that small? We configure a log segment of 2 GB...

Hi Markus,

thank you for your reply. I can't say you why our logfiles are so small. Furthermore I have to use the pipe.

So, do you have an idea?

Thank you for your tips, but i can't change everything

You have two options:

- increase the size (parameter LOG_SEGMENT_SIZE)

- backup to filesystem

With your strategy, you will never be sure if the system can be restored because as said, backing up logs to pipe is very dangerous. Even if it "looks good" it´s not sure, that the logs are really backed up correctly.

Apart from that it will stress your mechanics in your library pretty much with loading/unloading etc.

If you won´t/can´t change anything then, well... you´re on your own then.
