MM close Peiod - Application

Hi all

Pl let me know the purpose of closing period and what are the importance and in depth knowledge of closing period..

Pl let me if any one faced critical problems related to closing period.

In MM three periods are open at any time

current period, last period and last month of last year

at every month end last period is to be closed and next period has to be opened

this is done by MMPV tcode

cretical thing is that once the period closed its difficult to open last period

so care must be taken while closing and openingthe period

closed period can be opened by mmpi but its risky so SAP dont sugest that to do

Hi,

Once you close the period, you can not open it in MM side. So generally no one close, just wait for 2-3 days after month end to capture all posting and see all the open transaction posted or not. Ex...suppose you want to close November month(Period11), you wait upto December 2nd or 3rd and then close period November(11).Its very easy to close in MM side and not possible to reopen a period once close. You can also set back posting in MMRV. So you can post in November and October. But once you close 11th period, You can post only in 11th and 12th(if back posting set) and you can not post in period in 10th.

You can see which period is open in MMRV and close in MMPV. In FI side open and close can be done in OB52.Before closing period in MM side consult you FICO Consultant and see what’s your business requirement.

****Note: If by chance any period close and want to open, you can follow the SAP Note 487381, But its not advisable in running systems.

Hi,

Once you close the MM period, you cannot post any material document for the closed period.

Also due care needs to be taken while closing the period and opening new period. While opening new period if any mistake happens that is by mistake future period gets opened then u are due for grave challenges.
