How can I make the field "LANGUAGE" as mandatory while creating contact person through VAP1?

I want to set the field "LANGUAGE" as mandatory while creating contact person through VAP1 so that users aren't allowed to save the contact person until they have selected a language from the drop down.

I did a search in SAP notes with criteria contact person field vap1 and filter by How to.

This note came up: 2443896 - How to set field status to mandatory/required for contact person details.

I was just lucky perhaps. In most cases it is easier just to check how mandatory fields are determined in the application by inspecting the code.

It is an interesting question why users do not maintain language in VAP1. At least in my system the language is defaulted from the language in which I logged in. This means that clearing the value is an additional step and people do not like extra work, unless there is a good reason to do so.

Maybe it is a good idea to investigate why people change the proposed value?

So, i guess there must be some hard coding through which we can make the language field mandatory in VAP1 t-code?

If you insist on using VAP1 and do not wish to create variant transactions, update roles etc.

I made a quick test with a transaction variant and it seems to do the trick - you cannot save a contact person with language = ' ', because there is no option for that in the menu drop-down.

Still, solving problems with development without finding the reason why users remove the language value is a waste of resources.
