Hi All,

My scenario is i am running SAP on my Windows Server 2003 R2 x64Bit with 16GB RAM, the disp+work.exe keep increasing Mem Usage , time to time will cause end user feel lagging , force us to restart every time to release disp+work.exe mem usage. Do you guys have any suggestion or recommendation?

Windows Server 2003 R2 x64Bit .... more than 14 years old ...

I have only one recommendation:

Upgrade to a full supported configuration. Supported by SAP and by Microsoft. I am not asking which database you use ... 🙂

Best regards,

Kalle

Hi Eflys,

It's impossible to fully diagnose this for you, as you do not provide enough information. I assume this is an ABAP system, based upon disp+work.exe being your primary concern, but you should state that up front. What NetWeaver release is it? What kernel version and patch level? What Basis support pack level? Is this a central system with database and primary application server on the same host? Or a standalone application server with remote database? What database platform are you using? All of these things can influence memory utilization on the server.

However, one thing I can diagnose for you straight away is that you need to upgrade your operating system. Windows Server 2003 has been out of support for more than two years, unless you have a custom maintenance agreement with SAP (in which case, they would be helping you directly with this). You can see this directly in the Product Availability Matrix, this document on End of Maintenance Information, and Note 2135423 (Support of SAP Products on Windows Server 2003 After 14-Jul-2015). Also, perhaps directly relevant to your situation is Note 1316558 (System Hang Situations on Windows Server 2003), which describes a known issue with memory management on this platform that could only realistically be resolved by migrating to a newer OS. If that's not possible for some reason, there is a workaround mentioned in the Note.

Beyond an OS upgrade, issues such as memory leaks with kernel components are almost always resolved with a kernel patch update. Given how old your OS is, I suspect you may be working with an out-of-maintenance kernel version as well. Assuming your NetWeaver release is still in support, there may be an available kernel upgrade you can apply (with OS-level restrictions, per the PAM that I linked earlier).

FYI, I changed the tag on your question. I don't see what this has to do with a Document Management System Connector for Knowledge Management.

Cheers,
Matt
