What ftp command asc or pwd means

What are ftp commands and what they mean.

    Hi Dennis,

    in windows command line (start->Run->cmd), enter ftp.

    then

    ftp> help asc

    ascii Set ascii transfer type

    ftp> help pwd

    pwd Print working directory on remote machine

    or
