Is SLD Necessary ?

Dear all,

In the scope of the project, we need to procure and setup Exchange Infrastructure in our environment, but at this stage we are not sure how big it is going to be. We are a medium sized organisation. So, when we get it it will be based on Netweaver 2004s (Netweaver 7.0)

From my book knowledge I understand, if the size of development team is small, we need not configure SLD, but we use standard three system landscape and developer can develop j2EE based application on Developer studio and deploy in test system to test and manually transport changes to QA and Prod ?.

Is it possible, if yes, in what kind of scenario it is possible and what might be difficulaties if this method is adapted ?

Please advice.

HI ,

SLD is the central information provider for the whole system landscape. Generally, SLD is deployed after the installation of each SAP Web Application Server Java 6.30 or higher. Nevertheless, to bring the SLD server into operation, it has to be configured and activated.

SAP Exchange Infrastructure (SAP XI) uses SLD for common landscape information. SAP XI 2.0 contains a previous version of SLD (6.20). For SAP XI 2.0 users, there are three alternatives:

As long as you are using SLD only for SAP XI, there is no need to upgrade.

You can use two independent SLD servers in parallel, one SLD 6.20 for SAP XI 2.0 and one SLD 6.40 for all other purposes. The drawback is that you have to administrate two SLD servers to keep their data consistent.

You can use SLD 6.40 for SAP XI 2.0. The prerequisite is that all involved ABAP-based systems (Integration Server, clients, and business systems) must have patch level 24 (or higher) for SAP_BASIS 6.20.

hope this information will help you in some extend.

Hi Nick

SLD is like BASIS for SAP Net Weaver. It contains all the info about XI. You cant't imagine XI without SLD.

HI Nick,

SLD is a landscape mean all information of the scenario.

so definatly it is important to installe.

one more thing without product and software component one can not make any scenario.

SLD is the base of all IR, ID and RWB.

Hi nick,

is SLD necessary?

quite an interesting ques!! in my view netweaver components use SLD for registering systems in data center and all work in synch with each deriving information from the same source... SLD. So is the case with XI.

I dont think you can opt for not choosing SLD.

latika.

Hi Nick,

As you said, your are going to setup XI, then SLD will be delivered with XI, as SLD is the main central repository for NetWeaver which has built-in predelivered content, and user specific content can be configured. You can configure one SLD for DEV, QLTY and PRD systems. So SLD is necessary.

Hi Nick,

Is SLD Necessary ?

As u know SLD is defined as central-repository- of- information .The SLD acts as a server for application business system names for application

systems to get their own business system name and also SLD is used for Exporting and Importing Technical Systems and Business Systems........so it is very use full while configureing the interfaces in INTEGRATION-DIRECTORY .....so u need SLD in XI .

Hi Nick,

SLD is one of the component in XI and its major component.SLD is a central repository of information about software and systems in the data center.

You can use same SLD for DEV, QAS.

In the given link there are different possibilities which you can use.
