Minisap is not the same as IDES. Minisap is comparable to the new Netweaver 2004s Sneak Preview edition. It has only the technology layer, meaning you can use it to practice your ABAP skills using all of the ABAP related tools. You can download this from the Download section here on SDN.

IDES is more of a pre-cofigured R/3 or ECC system where it does include the Netweaver Technology layer, but you still get the R/3 modules like MM, SD, PP, etc. These are the things that are absent in the Minisap or Netweaver Sneak preview.

The MiniSAP term was used to label the older version of the sneak preview, like the Minisap 4.6D version.

Here is the link to download it:

https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/downloaditem?rid=/library/uuid/cfc19866-0401-0010-35b2-dc8158247fb6

Choose the "Full ABAP Edition-Trial (with Web Dynpro for ABAP!)" if you want to do some ABAP.

Regards

Installation isn't difficult.

You can install it local and write an ABAP program.

You can see http://sapinfo.quotaless.com how to create first program.
