We have a SQL table which contains files (pdfs, jpgs etc). I have been able to get Crystal Reports to display the actual images of the jpg files but not the pdfs. The sql table's field's datatype is an image. When I drag the field into CR, it gets formatted as a blob field and shows the data if the source is a jpg.

What I need to be able to do is have a link to click on and then the pdf file will open using whatever the user has a a pdf viewer. Is this something extra I have to code in SQL or does CR (using version 2013) understand the data?

Hi Mercedes,

Anything other than an 'image' is not a supported blob type in CR.

If you have a link to the PDF file, you should be able to set it up as a hyperlink.

For the hyperlink approach to work, you need to "materialize" the PDF binary stored in the database into a file.
At least one of the 3rd-party Crystal Reports User Function Libraries (see list here) allows you to do that on the fly (as the report gets rendered) to ensure the hyperlinks point at valid file paths.
