MSCS for 4.6C and Oracle10 on winx86_64

Hello guys

We have to install SAP R/3 4.6C clustered by MSCS.

Details:

SAP R/3 4.6C

SAP Kernel 4.6D EXT 32 bits

Oracle 10.2.0.2

Windows x86_64

We did preparations regarding to MSCS

We have already installed succesfully SAP R/3 4.6C in one of nodes of cluster. SAP system is ok.

Now we have doubts in phase Clustering. Documentation is confuse...

As per note 975467 - Oracle 10g Support on Windows: 4.6D-Based SAP Systems, we find:

********************************************************************

o Do not use the following chapters from the installation guides for

your 4.6D-based system:

"Installing the Oracle Database Software",

"Installing the Oracle Failsafe Software",

"Converting the DB to a Fail Safe DB"

Use the respective chapters from the installation guide for SAP

Netweaver 2004s SR1 instead:

"Installing the Oracle Database Software",

"Installing the Oracle Failsafe Software",

"Additional Steps for the Oracle Fail Safe Configuration",

"Creating the Oracle Fail Safe Group",

"Setting Up a Shared Database Directory in Oracle Home",

"Adding the Oracle Database Resource to the Fail Safe Group".

********************************************************+

So ,it seems is necessary use Chapters of guide of Netweaver...

and then, in last point we find:

***************************************************************

If you plan to set up a Microsoft Cluster Service (MSCS)

configuration of 4.6D on X86_64, refer to SAP Note 955785 for more

information

******************************************************************

So , we read note 955785 and we find:

****************************************************************

Do not use the "Start - Programs" entries to start the clustering

steps: "Configuring MSCS Node A", "Configuring MSCS Node B",

"Completing MSCS".

Use "R3Sedit.exe" instead and load the templates NTCMIGNA.R3S,

NTCMIGNB.R3S, UPDINSTV.R3S

*****************************************************************

So it seems clustering must be done using secuence of 4.6C guide, but some points must be replaced by tasks of Netweaver guide.

But The thing is that sequence of steps to Clustering in release 4.6C is not the same than in Netweaver....

..so all of this is confused...

Please could you tell me which steps are necessary to clustering SAP R/3 4.6C , Oracle 10, with MSCS and in which order?

Thanks and regards

Javier

that is correct:

1) you use "guide of Netweaver" to install and cluster Oracle software.

The difference to 32-bit is that you install 64-bit Oracle and OFS software, but you will install 32-bit OFS client.

2) you use notes 814834 and 955785 to install CI, load data and cluster the CI.

Ok, so... that means right order is following???

1- NTCLUST.BAT in node A ( 4.6C guide)

2- NTCLUST.BAT in node B (4.6C guide)

3- CONFIGURING NODE A FOR MSCS (4.6 C guide)

4- ADDITIONNEL STEPS FOR ORACLE FAIL SAFE CONFIGURATION (Netweaver Guide)

5.- CREATE ORACLE FAIL SAFE GROUO ( Netweaver guide)

6.- SET UP AS SHARED DATABASE DIRECTORY IN ORACLE HOME (Netweaver guide)

7.- ADD ORACLE DATABASE RESOURCE TO FAIL SAFE GROUP (Netweaver guide)

8.- CONFIGURING NODE B FOR MSCS (4.6C guide)

9.- COMPLETING CONVERSION MSCS IN NODE B ( 4.6C guide)

10-COMPLETING CONVERSION MSCS IN NODE A (4.6C guide)

Is that right???

Thanks and regards

that is correct, you simply replace Oracle related steps with NW2004 SR1/SR2 guide

Ok thanks

but I have already started.. and in step 3, I get an error because template NTMIGNA.R3S , in section

[DBORADETECT_NT_ORA]

CLASS=COraDetect

CONFIRMATION=NLS_CHARACTERSET

MSGID=RI_GIST_DBORADETECT_IND_IND

NLS_CHARACTERSET=WE8DEC

SVRMGR=@DB_HOME@\bin\svrmgr30.exe

is using SVRMGR30.exe !!! and this an old executable for Oracle 8 ...

So, that template is wrong

and, why should I use NTMIGNA.R3S instead of NTCLUSNA.R3s ???

Thanks

are you using the correct ext CD, that supports O10 (INSORA102_0-10002548.SAR from the note 976457)?

> So, that template is wrong

> NTCLUSNA.R3s ???

you have to use templates attached to the note 955785 - ntclust.sar

OK

I made a mistake with point 1

But regarding to point 2 ,

note 955785 say:

****************************************************************

Do not use the "Start - Programs" entries to start the clustering

steps: "Configuring MSCS Node A", "Configuring MSCS Node B",

"Completing MSCS".

Use "R3Sedit.exe" instead and load the templates NTCMIGNA.R3S,

NTCMIGNB.R3S, UPDINSTV.R3S

*****************************************************************

So, is correct using NTCMIGNA and B?

thanks

should be correct - NTCMIGNA.R3S, NTCMIGNB.R3S, UPDINSTV.R3S

Ok thanks

Now I'm in step

are you using spfile?

did you perform chapter "Additional Steps for the Oracle Fail Safe Configuration"?

OK I have already solved.

I didnt perform this chapter, because is a little confuse...

But I could solve the error, doing only step 8 of this chapter:

8. Create the init<DBSID>_OFS.ora file in the database directory, and enter the following line:

spfile = <path_to_Oracle_Home>\database\SPFILE<DBSID>.ora

Thanks a lot
