Is there a way by which i can retrict the MRP run,(md01) for a MRP controller to one material type.ex.material type = spare parts.

Is it possible in the functional setting...or should we go for ABAP development.

It is not possible in Configuration.

You need to activate the enhancement "M61X0001" and use a user exit key value to filter the selection of materials for MRP run. Use the user exits available in the enhancement to put your code....pls go through the documentation of this enhancement for details.
