BI IP - Issue with input query/web template when no data available

Hi Everyone,

We need dynamic number of fiscal periods in the data columns section based on type of planning (i.e. annual or quarter etc). We have used fiscal period with variable in the columns section which determines number of periods.

‘Access Type for Result Values’ attribute has been selected as 'Master Data' for the fiscal period in order to get data columns for all the required periods even if there is no data for any particular period.

If the filter conditions returns at least one record of data then the input template works fine. It displays current data and also displays new rows/lines for input.

However, if the filter condition does not retrieve any data at all then in stead of displaying blank new lines for input, the template gives java runtime error:

<b>The initial exception that caused the request to fail was:

Invalid state: Section I is valid, but neither II nor III. </b>

This is a very general requirement in a planning application.

Searched for OSS notes and could not find any note which can fix this issue.

Any help how to resolve this issue will be highly appreciated.

Tried to see how workbook planning application behaves for this same case. It doesn’t give runtime error. Displays no data found, however doesn’t give new lines for input.

Best regards,

Sanjeeb

    Hi,

Not sure why you are getting error in web, but I think if you have a plan query with dynamic columns using a time characteristic then new rows dont appear if you dont have any data (I think a message comes saying this when you run such a query... can you check in the analyser/workbook?)

      Hi Mayank,

No message appears indicating if you run a plan query with dynamic columns using a time characteristic then no new rows appear. Web template gives java run time exception. I tried different settings in the query but didn't help ...

As I have mentioned earlier, analyser/workbook planning application doesn't give run time error ... it indicates no data found .. but doesn't give new lines ...

This is not acceptable. looks like to me that we are getting more and more limitations in IP compared to BPS application. In this case user either has to upload the data through file or widen the filter condition which can return at least one record of data so that new lines can appear. It is difficult to convince users with these limitations. no user will ever like java run time exception error page ..

Appreciate help how to fix this issue ...

      Best regards,

      Sanjeeb
