How to apply rebates to materials

My facility gets rebates from suppliers on a quarterly and annual basis when purchasing a minimum of specific materials. My products are stocked materials in my SAP material master and use the (V) moving average price valuation. Materials are issued to multiple cost objects. My goal is to post these rebates back to the ordered materials in order to reduce the moving average cost without driving my current inventory cost into the negative.
Has anyone figured out a method of applying the rebates to the material moving average price for stocked materials without driving inventory moving average price into the negative?
How do others apply rebates?
