Install multiple developer studios on one PC

Former Member

Hi,

Can somebody explain me step-by-step how to install multiple developer studios on one PC. I've seen the two weblogs about it but they do no talk about the installation process itself. When I start installing the second developer studio, the installation process is only offering me two options: update or remove. How can I specify a new installation directory (e.g. IDE7_SP10 for first installation and IDE7_SP13 for the second installation)?

Thanks,

Jeroen

Hi,

In this blog,

/people/helmut.tammen2/blog/2005/09/27/running-multiple-versions-of-netweaver-developer-studio-on-one-developer-pc--another-approach

Helmut has mentioned,

After installing a SAP IDE first go to the installation folder (typically c:\program files\SAP\JDT).

Rename the folder to ...\JDT_SPxx. This makes sure that following SAP IDE installations will not overwrite the old one

Give a try now !

Hi,

I have tried it, but it didnt work for me. Probably this only works for developer studio 2004 (which is installed in JDT folder) and not for developer studio 2004s (which is installed in IDE7 folder)

Hi Jeroen,

Do you want to install different versions of NWDS? If yes, I have installed them successfully in my system(2.0.16 and 7.0.08). First install the old version and then install the new version.I don't remember exactly the options I got. I think we will get options update, remove and new. And we need to select new to have old and new studios. If it is not asking the for options then also it will at least ask for the directory path before installation then you can give new path. Hope I understood your problem correctly.

Hi,

I want to install e.g. 7.0.10 and 7.0.13. In that case the second installation is not providing an option to install it in a new directory, only update/remove the existing 7.0.x installation.

Hi,

You should install the first NWDS version in a drive other than your primary drive.

Eg: if your Operating system is installed in C:/, then dont install NWDS in C:/program files/..., try installing it in D:/

Then, the other NWDS be installed a drive other than the drive in which you installed the first NWDS

also, do not use the default folder names, rename them during installation..

I am not sure, but i think it will work.

Hi Joren,

After my previous post, I tried and installed succesafully two different versions of NWDS more specifically IDE7_SP07 and IDE7_SP09.

Do the following steps:

1. Install lower version (in your case IDE7_SP10).

2. Go to C:\Program Files\SAP (There is one folder IDE) .

3. Create a new folder IDE7_SP10.

4.Copy IDE70 from C:\Program Files\SAP\IDE to C:\Program Files\SAP\IDE_SP10.

5.Now install new version (in your case IDE7_SP13).

6.Now go to C:\Program Files\SAP\IDE_SP10\IDE70\eclipse. There is a excutable file called SapIde. Right click on this file -> Select Create Shortcut.

7.Copy this and paste on desktop and rename it as SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio (SP10).

That's all. You have done it.

I am pretty much sure that I will be rewarded full points with your success. Feel free to get back if there is any issue.

All the best.

regards,

Siva

I still have to test it, rewarding you is on my todo list, will do it as soon as I need to install another version (at the moment not needed anymore) or if I have some spare time.

Hi Jeroen/Siva,

Will the multiple versions of NWDS works with SAP NW 7.0 Ehp 1 as well (7.01.06) ?

Thanks and Regards,
