Top down and bottom up planning in BI-IP

Hi ,

We are starting to understand the BI-IP as we are implementing a small planning application. We have plans to convert all our planning applications in BI-IP. I have couple of questions.

1. How the data base saves the data in the BI-IP. Is it the same way as it was in BW-BPS. I have put an example at the end of my questions. .

2. We would like to save the data in 12 periods even if user plans quarterly or fiscal year based. Can this be done by 'distribute by key' functionality.

3. We have organization based hierarchies. We want the user to plan on any node in one planning layout ( input query). Is it possible. We want the plan data for the subnodes aggregating at the node level too.

Question 1 - Example

I am calling Product group as PG and Product as P

There is a characteristic relation ship

P11 and P12 belong to PG1 and

P21 and P22 belong to PG2

User A planned sales for product P11 as $10

User A planned sales for product P21 as $12

User B planned sales for product group PG1 as $25

User C planned sales for product group PG2 as $10

I am hoping that the data is saved as follows. My question is that how the data is saved if the user name is also to be saved in the planning data.

Product group PG1 and product P11 = $10

Product group PG1 and product # = $15

Product group PG2 and product P21 = $12

Product group PG2 and product # = ( $2)

Best regards

Deepak

Hi Deepak,

Answer:

1) It's the same as in BPS.

2) I don't know exactly but there are many ways too solve this. My guess is if you use the same functionality as in BPS it's also possible in IP.

3) Check note 994853 for more information, or look at thread BI-IP: Planning on hierarchy nodes.

I hope this helps.
