optimizing xmx and xms for Performance

Folks,

Our 2004s Portal is running on Windows 64 machine with 16 GB ram , the xmx and xms are by default 1024 . Our Portal is bit slow .. if I increase xmx and xms to 2048 will it improve the performance.

Thanks,

Manish

    Hello!

According to SAP the heap size should be set to 2048 for 64bit systems running Netweaver7, so you should definitely increase this. (Please consult note 723909 for details of the recommended settings - NewSize and PermSize will probably be too small as well.)

There is no guarantee though that this will increase the performance. If it is due to a lack of memory then it will.

    Hi!

In fact the best practice is usually to update the 'Servers General' Settings of the Instance and make sure that the local servernodes do not have explicit settings of their own so that they inherit this. Does not seem much of a difference at first sight, but can save manuael effort along the way.

    Regards,

    Jörg
