MDM questions

Hello my MDM friends,

I'm back with few new questions about MDM that I hope to solve...

1. MDM obtains its Master Data from heterogeneous client Systems (SAP & Non SAP). When is absolutely necessary to use XI?? When is advisable?? When is not necessary? Does it also depend on the type of master data or just on the type of client system?

2. Working with MDM5.5 SP04 in an harmonization scenario. Is it possible to return data to client systems automatically? I mean, once you have consolidate your data in DM, Can Sysndicator server know that there are updates in MDM and send it to client systems?

Thanks a lot,

Marta.

    Hi Marta,

    1. In standard practise, Master data from heterogeneous systems is the form of IDOC's. Which is a non-understable format for MDM. Here XI plays the main role.

and convert the IDOC's into XML format(MDM understandable format). You can even import the data in various formats like Excel, Access, DB. Once you consolidated the data and harmonize through Syndicator tool, it is in XML format, XI will convert XML format to IDOC's and sent to respective client systems.

if your source file is Excel, Access, DB, then we dont need XI.

    2. It is not possible to automate harmonization scenario. Syndication server will not known that there are updates.

in SP5 version, you can create the workflow for syndication, for this you have to define syndication map & map properties settings(like suppress unchanged records), and outbound port configuration. Once you did above set up, when you run the workflow, syndication process will run automatically and records will be in outbound port ready folder. XI will pick the Data from that folder and send it back to respective client systems.

    hope this may help you

      Thanks a lot Srini,

Your answer was very helpful. Just a last question according to point number 2. If MDM 5.5 SP4 doesn't support the syndicate step in workflow. What are the profits / use of MDM Syndicator Server? when is it used?

      Thanks.

    Hi Marta,

For your second question, where you want harmonize data ( updated data) back to respective clients automatically, the following steps can be done

    1. Maintain key mappings for every remote system so that the respective clients can be identified.

    2. Then using export maps, mention in Properties: Suppress unchanged Records.

Hence the syndiacotr will only syndicate the updated or New records.

    3. Mention these maps in Console so that the syndication server can pick them automatically ( Configure the .ini file for syndication server and mention the time)

Hence in these ways you can maintain the records according to the clients and also syndicate the Updated records automatically after some time interval.

    Thanks and Regards

    Hi Marta,

the steps given by nitin are correct.

if you installed syndication server, and you maintain the settings in syndiation map properties, and time settings for the syndication server(in the .ini file) it will syndicate the records periodically.

Then there is no manual work, if there is any logs, we can track and do the needful.

    hope this will help you,

    regards
