Translation in SAP systems

Apparently SAP has invested an awful amount of money in <i>internatinalization</i>. Nevertheless sometimes I think translation should be more accurate.

For instance, in SAP NW BI message no. RSM1607 is:

in English: <i>For sel. field 'MATERIAL', no selection with SIGN = 'E'; OPTION 'EQ' allowed</i>;

in Italian: <i>Per campo sel. 'MATERIAL' non esistono sel. con SIGN = 'E'; ammessa OPTION 'EQ'</i>;

which basically means: <i>For selection field 'MATERIAL' there are no selections with SIGN = 'E'. OPTION 'EQ' is allowed.</i>, that is nonsense!

Hi,

I am French but I always connect in English because in a lot of administration transactions, if connectected in FR language, I get a mix of French , English and German....

Very often, I also don't understand "this French language" which is not used by French people !

Well the English isn't that great... Gernglish as I call it.

Techically, French has English as it's backup language where French does not exist. English then has German as it's backup language (particularly well used in low support pack levels!!)

to add to the confusion, German for quiet some time isn't the default language anymore. so meanwhile there are also a lot of funny translation from english to german one of my favourites being

Interface Builder -> Schnittstellenerbauer

well the fun is not easy to understand for non german speakers but Schnittstellenerbauer somehow sounds like 'Creator of The Interfaces' re-translated.

One might think they are using some elaborate babelfish programs like Google Translate or something like that. IMHO a simple quality issue, which, if not addressed, will lead to a software sounding strange or unfamiliar in any of its localisations.
