Uploading new printer driver to webconsole

Hi,

I am trying to upload a new printer driver to webconsole. The driver is packed into a zip-file called PIPRINTPB42_WM50_XSL_CRM_1_1_9.zip.

In the webconsole I choose to upload a new mobile component:

Component type: Driver Add-On

Mobile component: (the field is disabled)

Description: PIPRINTPB42_WM50_XSL_CRM_1_1_9

Version: (the field is disabled)

Build number: 01.01.09

..

..

I also browse the zip-file from local c: disk.

When I choose "Upload" I get an error saying: "The name of version of the mobile component contains invalid characters".

What does this mean?

Hi

Kindly make sure there no blank characters or special characters i the name of the mobile component that you have entered. May be you can refer to note 784263. This should solve your problem.

Hi,

thank you for your quick response!

I tried to rename the zip-file to PB.zip, but it did not help. I still get the same error.

I am using MI2.5 SP14, but this driver is actually meant for SP19, however I was recommended to try it anyway in this post

But if this is because of the driver is not compatible with my version of MI I think this was a strange error message, so can it be anything with the naming convention?

Hi,

is it possible to copy the driver (zip-file) directly to the PDA without using webconsole, which directory would that be?

Hi,

Moving the zip file directly to the PDA will not work. Moreover this driver should have MI 2.5 SP 19 as a pre-requisite.So i dont think it will work for SP14.

You can only upload driver which has pre requisite of SP 14.Hope this helps!

Thanks and Regards,

Hi Jørn,

you can try to copy the driver directly.

Well, it is a little tricky, but it should work.....

If you have a look into the file, you will find the deployment descriptions in there - telling MI what to do when the driver is downloaded. There you find the parameters you have to add to the mobileengine.config, you find the location the driver is copied to and that stuff.

If you are interested send me the driver or tell me where to download it, then I will give you some detailed infos about it - at least it could be worth to try it.....

Yes, I've got your answer, thanks!

I am not quite sure if I understand the steps of Post-install.scp correctly, so first I have only tried to figure out what it actually is intended to do.

Post-install.scp

IFEXISTS /windows/BtCoreIf.dll

copy %PATH%piprintpb42._bc,%SYSTEMDIR%piprintpb42.dll

ELSE

copy %PATH%piprintpb42._ms,%SYSTEMDIR%piprintpb42.dll

ENDIF

copy %PATH%piprintpb42.md,%PIOS_CONFIG%piprintpb42.md

copy %PATH%piprintpb42.prmd,%PIOS_CONFIG%piprintpb42.prmd

cpinstall %PATH%piprintpb42.fntcfg,%PIOS_CONFIG%piprintpb42.fntcfg

cpinstall %PATH%piprintpb42.barcfg,%PIOS_CONFIG%piprintpb42.barcfg

cpinstall %PATH%piprintpb42.cfg,%PIOS_CONFIG%piprintpb42.cfg

copy %PATH%piprintpb42.properties,%PIOS_PROPS%piprintpb42.properties

I have three questions related to this config-file:

1) copy %PATH%piprintpb42._ms,%SYSTEMDIR%piprintpb42.dll

what does this "copy" syntax mean? Copying piprintpb42._ms to %SYSTEMDIR% and then renaming the file to .dll?

2) %PIOS_CONFIG% I think is the folder /MI/pios/config, but what/where is %PIOS_PROPS%?

3) What does the "cpinstall" command do?

Hope you have some answers to help me one step further

Hi,

yes, answer 1 is correct - copy the file and rename it as well.

Well, just as I pointed out in my mail - do you have the old driver installed on the device? Then you just need to change the files.

cpinstall means: copy and install - well - again, if you have the old version already installed - just change the files and restart the PDA - this should give you the latest version.

But if you have a problem - MSN or Skype?

Hi,

I haven't got the old driver installed and still everything has worked properly. Up untill now we have used the PL4 printer from Intermec if you are familiar with that model.

Unfortunately I am not able to use MSN right now because of some network restrictions, but I will try to copy the files first and see if that works! Then I will post my results here.
