i read a presentation from sdn , it had a statement like IR TO BE USED AT CONSUMER, PARTNER,SAP LOCATION . WHAT IS THE USE OF HAVING IT AT SAP (WHAT IS IT )? MORE OVER WHY ID & IE IS RESTRICTED TO JUST CUSTOMER SITE ?( ICOULD GUESS AND MAKE SOME MEANING , STILL I DON WANT TO GUESS )

hi deepu,

IR is design time component. u use it to "design" ur scenario. this does not require the knowledge of customer's systems that are actually goin to communicate in real time. so IR activities can be at ur site.

while ID is the configuration time component. it involves the information of systems at real time that can only be known at customer site. take it like this: in ID u "configure ur design that u prepare in IR for a particular set of systems"

do u mean that SAP site means its we "the developer side" ?

hi deepu,

it happens like this.

1. The SLD, design and configuration is done at SAP server for the particular client

and is then certified by SAP.

2. Now the IR part is just the design which is indendent of System landscape which can be imported to partner and consumer.

3. the SLD and configuration is done at partner side based on their system landscape.

Where did you read this? in what context was it used? Can you provide links?

I guess one context of this is you can expose a certain part of the system to a client as part of a self service marketplace which provides them with the details they require to raise /send a purchase order, track orders etcetera...
