show group where no detail data where group is a formula

I have been asked to write a report showing totals for items sold by month for variable date ranges. The details has part number, invoice date, quantity, and unit price. To create grouping, I have created a formula field that extracts month from date and another to extract year from date . Then I use both formula fields as the grouping fields; group 1 as @year, group 2 as @month. I have been asked to show all months even if there were no sales within a certain month of the date range. Is there a way to do this in crystal?

    Hi Scott,

Crystal won't create a group for a month if there is no data in that month. What you should do is have a calendar table with your years and months. Now you can link that table to your report add it to your formula and that will give you your missing months. There use to be a great blog on how to do this but I'm list in this new community forum.

A quick search for Crystal and calendar may help you find it.

    Good luck,

    Brian
