It was a stupid decision to reset the number range after you already created a vendor with a higher number, as sooner or later to arrive at this number and your users will get a dump as you can't have the same vendor numbers twice in the data base.

Your gap was probably caused by the same careless action.

Actually you would find such gaps temporary in my system too.

E.g. when I do data migration then I assign the internal numbers in the conversion step of my LSMW and create automatically a mapping legacy vendor number to new number in the background. And this early assignment leaves gaps which are filled when I post my Idocs with the new vendors. (which is in my case usually within 5 minutes, but who knows how others operate)

Thank Jurgen, i know about the dump, the question is what make the system behave like this even before i make the reset or any changes in number range.

there can be countless reasons, usually it is a human mistake like transporting of number ranges, changing last used number like you just did, the reason that I mentioned earlier with migrations where the numbers are early assigned and get posted later.

Please kindly search before asking number range gaps are known for decades in SAP and there is nothing really new that could cause different answers than those that have been posted some hundred times already.

There are 1280 results for this search term using Google: vendor number range gap site:sap.com

Thank you, i have already searched the internet before posting no one mentioned this huge gap in number range, and i also read the notes related to number range gaps note 2514835, 62077 and 1817764 it is all about normal buffering around 5 numbers jump not this huge number. if the number range skipped 5000 number, as per your answer it is a normal behavior from system. thank you for your time but i can not accept this as a solution.

I did nowhere tell it is normal - I said it is usually a human fault

and why do you actually link facebook when you post OSS note numbers?

as i mentioned before system was generating vendor numbers with the normal buffering gap before any changes and suddenly this gap happened. OSS note numbers are linked with SAP One Support Launchpad not facebook.

Hi,

Are you, by any chance, have two application servers in your landscape? Also, did you reset the buffer after putting it to zero with SM56?

Eli

Thank You Eli,

we have three application servers, Development, Quality and production each server has two clients.

no i didn't reset the buffer in SM56.

after reset the buffer i created a vendor and it was generated in sequence, the second vendor made this strange jump.

sorry the previous answer and my comment deleted by mistake.

Kind Regards
