Hi guys,

Is it true that extractors will not be used anymore when getting data from S/4 Hana since it will be removed already? If it is, what will be the best way to get data from that server? I read about Core Data Services (CDS), is it the same with SAP Data Services? Or what really should be the method to extract data from S/4 Hana to BW?

Thank you.

Loed

Hi Loed,

for S/4HANA on premise most of the BW data sources (classic extractors) are whitelisted and can still be used for extraction as you might have it done in the past with SAP ERP systems. Check SAP Note 2500202 - especially the attachment in this SAP Note that lists which DataSources can still be used for extraction.

Now you may ask how this can still work in case of changes to the table structures in S/4HANA e.g. ACDOCA replacing the former FI tables or MATDOCA for material movements. Answer: So called compatibility views are in place and will provide you with functionally exactly the same information when running the extractor as before.

And for the future: Yes, extraction via CDS views is the path forward and the framework is already there - but the current gap are missing CDS views for this.

You can check the following blog and document for it:

https://blogs.sap.com/2017/03/28/s4hana-generic-delta-enablement-for-abap-cds-views-which-can-be-used-for-bw-extraction./

How to use ABAP CDS for Data Provisioning in BW

Identifying or building the ABAP CDS views and ODP ABAP CDS data sources needs to be done at the moments as part of customer project - or you could still use the classic BW datasources.

All the best for your project,

Andreas

Hi Andreas,

Thanks for explaining the extractors. I already read some documents about the extractors that are still possible to be used, just making sure that some are still using it or already taking the CDS way. I will check your posted links.

Core Data Services (CDS) is totally different from SAP Data Services, you can find the answer by google those two terms

Hi,
ODP Extraction is the successor of the classical extraction from SAP based Source Systems to BW on/for HANA

Please Note that you have to create also the BW/4 System as ODP based System, otherwise you cannot connect a S/4 System
See - SAP First Guidance – complete functional scope (CFS) for SAP BW/4HANA

Best Regards Roland
