I am very new to Workflow, is there any cookbook to get an idea of what a workflow is ?

It is not a cookbook, but the Wiki that was created by Mike Pokraka for <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/wiki?path=/display/home/sapBusinessWorkflow+FAQ">SAP Business Workflow FAQ</a> (Frequently Asked Questions) is a good place to start. It has links to additional information and books as well.
