Hi All,

I need in urgency to analyze the requirements and want to know basic differences between SNP Heuristics, CTM and Optimization Costs and to what scenario they are going to choose particular engine.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Sudhir.

Hi Sudhir,

Please see the <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_scm50/helpdata/en/de/7c5c3c3806af06e10000000a11402f/frameset.htm">SAP HELP</a> comparison among the planning methods.

Simply speaking, you use Hueristics if you need a simple fast inexpensive and roughly accurate supply plan.

You use CTM in case you want Pegging of orders, more accurate supply plan

Finally if you want an optimum supply plan with costs involved, you can use Optimizer.

In the clients I see, Heuristics is the most widely used as it is easy and inexpensive gives OK results

CTM is more used in hitech industries and Optimizer in case they have abundant money and very accurate Supply plan.

The success rating in decreasing order is Heursitics, CTM and Optimizer.

Hope this help.

Hi Visu,

Thanks for the information. Actually i am looking for the following requirements. As my experience in APO is very limited, if you can guide me regarding which functionality is best suited that will be great.

1.Show me the work centers globally

2.See what the capacity plans are for a product– compounding, packaging etc at a factory level

3.Volume information (consumer units, cases, pallets etc) is the most critical component to analyze by, although other data such as sales dollars or gross margin is needed so that volume can be put into context and prioritized. There will be issues as to what dollar rates to use (to eliminate any currency fluctuations) and what the definition of these terms is. Because of these issues, these measures are not as critical as volume.

4. There are going to be data issues with contract manufacturing as we cannot see their capacity. Many brands are produced using contract manufacturing. Some products are produced both internally and externally.

Thanks

To make a brief on this Topic,

SNP Heuristics can be used when you different set of Planning methods to be used. there are many heuristics are available for SNP run.

CTM would be used when capacities are basically taken into account.

Optimization is used when costs are maintained for every activity like set up, different modes of transports, delay costs. But, it is cumbersome to maintain different kinds of costs to get optimized costs through Optimizer.

Thanks
