Hi experts,

One of the users is unable to open the server reports, when they select the file and open nothing happens. At the bottom of the excel window a message appears saying "Opening and Repairing: <report title> Attempt #1". I have checked their SP (19 patch 4) and .NET (4.6.2). Also they are using Excel 2013. Any ideas?

"SP (19 patch 4)" - very old :(

Try to check with new SP

Try to create a simple report and save it to the server folder, try to open it...

P.S. You have 4 questions and none of them has accepted answer...

Yes very old service pack, but works perfectly fine for me when opening reports from server. Why would another user's functionality be any different? They have the same version of .NET, windows, excel, etc. Thanks.

P.s. I will close the other 4 questions. I am no longer looking for a response on those.

"Why would another user's functionality be any different?" - the code is different! And the old SP code may be somehow incompatible with the Excel patch level or something else.

But anyway have you tested the proposed sequence:

Create a new report

Save it on server folder

Open it from server folder

It's also a good idea to uninstall EPM completely, install some recent SP and test. You can later uninstall recent SP and install old to see the SP effect!

P.S. Office uninstall reinstall can be an option also!

Thanks for that insight.....I don't want this user creating reports on the server, just opening. I'll have them uninstall / reinstall. Thanks.

"I don't want this user creating reports on the server, just opening." - I am talking not about user, you have to perform some tests to figure out the issue. Use remote connection to user desktop...

Ok I'll do that. So if that fails as I expect it will, then what? Upgrade SP's, is that your only solution??

EPM log analysis can also help! Office uninstall reinstall can be useful (or even restore computer from standard image).

In general at least some tests have to be done before any recommendation.
