Change HANA DB user/password , when user login first time in Lumira or Power BI

Hi BI Experts,

We have created a DB user in HANA and now same user need to be used in POWER BI to consume the HANA models.

But their is a restriction, when user login first time, through HANA studio or HANA live browser. System ask to change the password and user can login.

However when the user try to use the credentials first time in Lumira or Power BI, It does not ask to change password and fail to login.

Rajender

Hi Rajender,

I have no system around currently to reproduce the issue but this sounds like a bug.

If you want a solution, please log a ticket.

If a workaround suffices, ask your SAP HANA administrator to create the user and select the option not to have to reset the password at first login (this is also available as a system-wide setting); assuming that both Lumira and Power BI have the option to change the database password.

Hi Denys,

It looks like bug only. I tried with Power BI, Tableau, Lumira & Qlick Sense too, doesn't work.

Thanks .

Can I ask a question on a different context.

I have provided powerBI user with a single package access and it works if I login with his id in HANA studio.

However when he connects in powerBI he could see all the other content packages as well.

Does anybody came across this? any suggestion will be helpful.

How can I restrict a powerBI/Lumira users see only the package they are having access.

Hello Rajendra,

We are facing the same issue. Did you get any fix for this?

Hi Rajendar ,

User should at least login once to HANA studio and change their password before login to any client tools .

Hi Sateesh,

You said correct about first login and password change.

But we can not install HANA studio in every business user system, as nobody will be using HANA studio for their work.

My concern is when we create user , user can not change the password them self as POWER BI tool does no give the prompt to change the password.

We need that password change prompt?

Rajender,

The login thru Lumira or Power BI is failing because the password is an initial password. There will be no prompt to change the password while trying to login outside HANA Studio. You may find details around this in the logs.

When consuming HANA DB users, you always have to set permanent password (Change initial password) for the DB user.
