strange behaviour: workbook!

Hi,

I am facing the following strange scenario:

i had added new characteristic in query definition. since it is placed free char place it was in the free char list but well below the original list.

So i had cut the row and pasted the new char in the original list. and saved the workbook!

But when i refresh the query the row is apparing again ( the place where i cut the row ) and also in the original list.

Is it that something i am missing or it behaves like that only?

Thanks,

Ravi

Hi Ravi,

Everytime you go from the workbook to the query change mode and make a change and come back into the workbook, it will add a blank row...is that what might have happened? If you have made and saved the changes to your workbook, close it and re-open it and see if it looks okay on refresh.

Hope this helps...

Hi Bhanu,

I am not going to the query change mode screen!

I am just making changes ( cut & paste the row ) in workbook it self!

everytime i refresh the query it is again the same original row appearing at the deleted row space

Thanks,

Ravi

Hi Ravi,

Did you save the workbook after doing the cut-paste?

Did you try after closing and reopening the workbook?

Did you select the whole row (from the left side on excel) or did you just select a few cells?

Hi Ravi,

After making the changes, try saving it as the same workbook first. Close it .. then reopen it and then refresh the query ..

Regards..

Hi Bhanu,

Yes i did everything u asked me!

Of course i saved the query in ( save existing workbook ) everytime i did cut & paste.

yes i did closed the workbook and opened it again! and once i even logged out and logged in to see if it makes any difference

yes i selected entire row and not just one or two cells for cutvand paste option

Thanks,

Ravi

It does seem to be strange...in the workbook properties do you have the Return to Global Definition on Refresh checked on? (Interaction tab)

Hi Ravi, Did you try what i said?

Bhanu:it's not strange as far as know.whenever we insert a new free char,it is dipalyed as ravi mentioned. removing Query from work book and inserting again will solve the issue.

Correct Murali....this is a common thing that happens...the strange thing is that inspite of all the suggestions, it is not getting fixed.

"Of course i saved the query in ( save existing workbook ) everytime i did cut & paste."

saving the query and saving the workbook are 2 differnet things...do you understand the difference?

have u tried just opening and refreshing the QUERY? If that appears fine in a new workbook then you are obviously not following the advice above

Hi,

I got the solution by myself!

When u make changes in workbook and save it, and u want to leave the changes as permanent, then delete all the query result in excel sheet!

And when u reopen it again, and refresh it, u observe that workbook has retained the last changes.

I donno whether this is the ideal way of retaining the last changes u made in the workbook! but it is working for me!

And i am not sure whether removing query from the workbook and inserting is also an ideal one!

Any ideas most welcome

Thanks,

Ravi
