APPLICATION.export disregards other javascript

I am using Design Studio 1.6 SP5 and want to display a panel containing a text warning to users when the click a button to export a crosstab to Excel. This is the javascript that executes on click of an OK button:

PANEL_EXPORT_POPUP.setVisible(false); APPLICATION.export(ExportType.EXCEL_xlsx);

For some reason the application disregards the first line and will export successfully but the popup remains visible. I find that any code I put before or after the export does not take affect. If I comment out the export the rest of the code executes successfully. However, when I create a brand new application and recreate these components and code it works successfully. Any ideas of what could be causing this issue in my current application?

    I may have found the (or at least one) issue: Maximum Number of Steps Back. In my application I had this property set to 20. I stripped out everything except for the OK button with the two lines of javascript and popup still failed to close. However, when I changed the Steps Back property to 0 the popup closed successfully. Can anyone else replicate this and prove it is the issue before I submit an Incident to SAP?
