Hi,

the SID or with other words the SAP System Identifier (sapsid) is a unique identification of a SAP System Instance. Within a SAP Customer Landscape it is essential to have each SAP instance distinguishably and addressable uniquely, especially if a customer has 50 or 60 Systems running. Along with the SID there is a System Nr. which should be also uniquely defined to this SID (e.g. SID = MBS and SystemNr. = 00 and/or SID = TST and SystemNr. = 01). The System Number reflects a range of reserved tcp-ports in the services of an operating system (look at C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\services) to access the SAP System. SAP System ID

<SAPSID>

The SAP System ID <SAPSID> identifies the whole SAP

system.

Caution

Choose your SAP system ID carefully. You cannot change

the SAP system ID after the installation.

Make sure that your SAP system ID:

1.) Is unique throughout your organization

2.) Consists of exactly three alphanumeric characters

3.) Contains only uppercase letters

4.) Has a letter for the first character

5.) Does not include any of the following, which are reserved

IDs:

ADD ALL AND ANY ASC COM DBA END EPS FOR GID IBM

INT KEY LOG MON NIX NOT OFF OMS RAW ROW SAP SET

SGA SHG SID SQL SYS TMP UID USR VAR

Database ID <DBSID> The <DBSID> identifies the database instance.

The database ID <DBSID> can be different from the SAP

system ID.

Instance Number Instance Number:

Technical identifier for internal processes, consisting of a

two-digit number from 00 to 97.

The instance number must be unique on a host. That is, if

more than one SAP instance is running on the same host, these

instances must be assigned different numbers.

If you want to install an additional application server

instance, you must use exactly the same instance number as the

existing primary application server instance.

To find out this number, look under the SAP directory

/usr/sap/<SAPSID>/DVEBMGS<nn> on the host of the primary

application server instance.

The value <nn> is the number assigned to the primary application

server instance.

Hi,

SID is SAP System Identifyer. Is a three(3) letter and there is an SAP strandards u need to follow that it should be either (CCC/CCN/CNCCNN) C=Char N=Numbers
