work order qty should be less than purchase order qty?

In my company during work order creation it is taking as much of the value.
We want that the work order entered quantity should be less than po qty and the system should show error .

Now the question is, HOW DO WE LINK PURCHASE ORDER WITH WORK ORDER ?
so that the system will show error if excess qty is taken.

A link between purchase order and work order can only be established if you order directly for consumption in a work order, which means you have a account assignment F in your purchase order. This also means that you do not create any stock in the warehouse, when you do a receipt the costs are directly booked to the work order.

I can't really understand this cry for restriction, just imagine a situation where you need 98 for a work order. And the material costs 10$ each. If you would buy 100 then you get the material for 9$ each. Which means you could even get 2 more and had only to pay 900 instead of 980$.

Nobody orders more than requested if there is no real reason for it. And with a good company culture the buyer would not even do it without calling the person who requested the material.

Here the problem is, our ordering material is steel and the size of the steel vary with minimum length or maximum length.Sometimes we get excess and sometimes less. The main purpose of connecting Po to work order is to reduce usage of additional material adding into Po. Suppose we have work order for 10 items and our people are adding 12 items in it and the system is still allowing it.

Hi,

There is no direct relation between WO stock material and the PO. However, you can check it based on the availability check and the checking rules. Please check the ATP check option in WO as explained int he doc: https://blogs.sap.com/2016/03/15/material-availability-check-in-maintenance-order/
