Languages called "Pure" OO languages, because everything in them is treated consistently an object, from primitives such as characters and punctuation, all the way up to whole classes, prototypes, blocks, modules, etc. They were designed specifically to facilitate, even enforce, OO methods. Examples: Smalltalk
A computer-programming methodology that focuses on data items rather than processes
The object-oriented approach focuses first on the data items (entities, objects) that are being manipulated. The emphasis is on characterizing the data items as active entities which can perform operations on and for themselves. It then describes how system behavior is implemented through the interaction of the data items.
Abstract data types define the active data items described above. A traditional data type in a programming language describes only the structure of a data item. An abstract data type also describes operations that may be requested of the data item. It is the ability to associate operations with data items that makes them active. The abstract data type makes operations available without revealing the details of how the operations are implemented, preventing programmers from becoming dependent on implementation details. The definition of an operation is considered a contract between the implementor of the abstract data type and the user of the abstract data type. The implementor is free to perform the operation in any appropriate manner as long as the operation fulfills its contract. Object-oriented programming languages give abstract data types the name class.
Polymorphism in the object-oriented approach refers to the ability of a programmer to treat many different types of objects in a uniform manner by invoking the same operation on each object. Because the objects are instances of abstract data types, they may implement the operation differently as long as they fulfill the agreement in their common contract.
A new abstract data type (class) can be created in object-oriented programming simply by stating how the new type differs from some existing type. A feature that is not described as different will be shared by the two types, constituting reuse through inheritance. Inheritance is useful because it replaces the practice of copying an entire abstract data type in order to change a single feature.
In the object-oriented approach, a class is used to define an abstract data type, and the operations of the type are referred to as methods. An instance of a class is termed an object instance or simply an object. To invoke an operation on an object instance, the programmer sends a message to the object.
Class members
A class has different members, and developers in Microsoft suggest to program them in the following order:
Namespace: The namespace is a keyword that defines a distinctive name or last name for the class. A namespace categorizes and organizes the library (assembly) where the class belongs and avoids collisions with classes that share the same name.
Class declaration: Line of code where the class name and type are defined.
Fields: Set of variables declared in a class block.
Constants: Set of constants declared in a class block.
Constructors: A method or group of methods that contains code to initialize the class.
Properties: The set of descriptive data of an object.
Events: Program responses that get fired after a user or application action.
Methods: Set of functions of the class.
Destructor: A method that is called when the class is destroyed. In managed code, the Garbage Collector is in charge of destroying objects; however, in some cases developers need to take extra actions when objects are being released, such as freeing handles or deallocating unmanaged objects. In .NET, there is no concept of deterministic destructors. The Garbage Collector will call the Finalize() method at a non-deterministic time while reclaiming memory for the application.
Access keywords
Access keywords define the access to class members from the same class and from other classes. The most common access keywords are:
Public: Allows access to the class member from any other class.
Private: Allows access to the class member only in the same class.
Protected: Allows access to the class member only within the same class and from inherited classes.
Internal: Allows access to the class member only in the same assembly.
Protected internal: Allows access to the class member only within the same class, from inherited classes, and other classes in the same assembly.
Static: Indicates that the member can be called without first instantiating the class.
Features of Object oriented Programming
The Objects Oriented programming language supports all the features of normal programming languages. In addition it supports some important concepts and terminology which has made it popular among programming methodology.
'The important features of Object Oriented programming are:
Inheritance : Ability to get other class features
Polymorphism :Acquiring more than one form
Data Hiding : Hide complexity and gives necessary details.
Encapsulation : Hide complex part of program
Overloading : Can use object with all arithematic operator.
Reusability : One class can be use again and again
Reward points if it is usefull....
