Changing The Customer Hierararchy

Have a Question Regarding the Customer Hierarchy:
The business users quite frequently change the Customer Hierarchy for a given Customer.

My question is how can we ensure that the latest changes are reflected in the Open Sales Orders??

I am pretty sure that 'after' the hierarchy changes are done by the user, we need to run the Transaction VDH1N and then Select: Hierarchy - Update Programs - All.

To my understanding, this will update all the Open Sales Orders with the latest Customer Hierarchy and also does a re-pricing in the Order.

My question is whether my assumption is correct? Is there any other activity that we need to when the customer hierarchy is changed to ensure all Transactional data are re-aligned?

Also to my experience updating all the open sales orders using the above transaction can take a long time. Can we run the above in the background mode?
