Connect CPM with Some BI

Hello,

I have read that the CPM uses an special connector where you don't have to get all the information from each InfoCube, you only need the location of the BI system and get the information on remote connection.

Some one in the forum posted me 2 moths ago one message: "In CPM you can retrive data from other source systems and queries built on those systems".

Does this mean that the CPM only gets the data & queries itself throught the source systems??? Do i have to create new source systems to those BI systems to retreive the information???

Does someone know how to do this?

Please I need help!!!!

Best Regards...

Pablo Mortera.

Hi Pablo

If you can be more specific on which product in CPM you are referring to, it would be easier to respond.

Hi Pablo,

if you are really referring to the old SEM-CPM ('Corporate Performance Monitor') component of SAP ERP, which contains the Management Cockpit capability, the response provided by Jean-Hubert is 100% correct.

The Management Cockpit app uses SAP NW BI as the only source of quantitative data to be displayed as metrics on the walls/frames of a management cockpit (web-based). However, please note that for dashboarding/cockpits, there are more up-to-date environments to model this types of analytical reports (e.g. NW Visual Composer, NW BI Web Application Designer, NW BI Formatted Reporting) which put the Management Cockpit application rather in maintenance mode (no further functionality enhancements for MC). The second very important aspect is that the acronym CPM now means 'Corporate Performance Management ' and refers within SAP's portfolio to a completely new breed of applications based on recent acquisitions:

Next Generation CPM

=

SAP Business Planning and Consolidation (based on Outlooksoft)

+

SAP Strategy Management (based on Pilot)

+

SAP Business Profitability Management by Acorn Systems.

In this context, the new scorecarding application SAP Strategy Management that replaced the old SEM Balanced Scorecard app is a great tool for establishing strategic aligment within an organization, based on strategic objectives, KPI's and initiatives. Perhaps the answer on the forum refered to this new CPM product family as this is based on an open architecture, being able to use data from different systems (ODBO, ODBC, flat file, manual entry etc.) as the metrics for its KPI's. For more info on the new CPM offering as well as the basic differences between dashboarding/cockpit (where the NW tools are positioned as the tool of choice now) and scorecarding (where SAP Strategy Management is tool of choice) please refer e.g. to my blogs:

Hi Pablo,

SEM-CPM gets the information through a so called OLEDB connection to a query (which have to be enabled for this, see advanced options in the query) in the context of a particular system, which can be a remote BI system of course.

The definition of the data source is done at the level of measures in the measure builder (tab Data source in the definition of a measure in the transaction UMK_MB).

Please take a look at the following link that can help to understand too:
