What is the exact purpose of Data streams.

Hi

Instead of loading the data manual from file or manual entry in BCS. you can use the data stream to load the data from bi automatically, in case the data is present in bi cubes/ods

Data Streams are used for loading the total records and other ODS from the BI.

you can define the mapping how the records has to move from the BI cube/ods to the BCS cube/ods.

Data Streams are nothing but where the data is stored. From the data stream you can read the data and write the data. There are number of data streams that are available in BCS. Depending upon the functions you need to populate the data stream. for examples data stream Total records is mandatory. Other data streams are optional. which is based on the requirement. Except total records data stream all other data streams are generated automatically.

The following are the list of data stream that are used in BCS with the remark of required/ optional.
