How to have Sales invoice number range with 12 digits

Hi all,

My client requirement is to have 12 digits number range for sales invoices. But in standard, only 10 digits are allowed. Could anyone guide me how to meet this requirement?

Is there any user exist or configuration for this?

Hi,

Billing no's either 10 digit or 12 digit. what is the actual requirement? Client might be expecting to increase the length either for some identification or running short of numbers.

So try to understand the actual requirement behind this request of12 digits.

if its only short of numbers, as said above, use Archive strategy Else, within 10 digits go for Alpha numeric number range

eg: <<AA>><<Serial no. 8 digits>>

This is possible with enhancement. Neverthless, complete requirement has to be known for better proposal.

For billing, only internal number ranges are allowed and hence, not possible to meet this requirement

Try understanding why your client wants to have 12 digit numbers - this is the most important part.

My guess is that your client wishes to store official invoice numbers and use them for referencing purposes and for reporting.

If this is the case - double-check what localization solutions SAP provides for the country of your client; it is possible that the problem has been addressed already.

If there is no standard solution available, you could store the official number in reference/assignment - if the FI experts agree with this, or in a separate Z* field.

There is no configuration or exit, which could increase the length of VBRK-VBELN and hopefully there is no need to tell that a modification is not feasible in practise.

If the reason for asking about 12 position number range is that they are almost out of available numbers, then archiving is the most appropriate way to handle the situation.
