Trigger a SAP BW Process Chain in Lumira 2.0

Former Member

Hi guys,

I was wondering if there is or if you`ve found a better solution for triggering a SAP BW process chain from Lumira 2.0 than this one: https://blogs.sap.com/2015/07/08/how-to-trigger-a-process-chain-using-a-planning-function-in-sap-des... ?

I need this functionality in almost every project. And applying this workaround is not the most straightforward method.

Is there anything better than this? Up to now, I haven`t found anything...

Thank you + Best,

Again wondering about this...

Maybe you, mbensan or tammy.powlas3?

If not I`ll log a proposal on ideaplace.

Thank you + Best,

Marcus

Hi Marcus - unfortunately I do not have an idea on this. I like your idea of posting it on idea place; once you post it on Idea Place please share a link here so the community can see and vote.

Hi Marcus,

I am not aware of any alternative approaches either. Given that you have mentioned this is a common requirement you encounter, I'd be interested to know what are the typical use-cases for such scenario?

Thanks,

Mustafa.

Hi Mustafa,

to give you just one recent example, where I am currently implementing a dashboard, that is used rather operationally.

I am aware that such requirements always have their root cause in way business processes are carried out and BI should not manipulate data too much, but sometimes, data has to be enhanced.

For example my application queries turnover figures based on profit center accounting (SAP CO) data, which is located in SAP BW. The dashboard shows a drill-down by customer number. There are cases that the customer information is shown as not assigned, which means that it was not maintained correctly while booking in SAP CO. Since those bookings are audit-relevant, the information cannot be maintained afterwards.

For different closing reports, the whole amount or huge amounts of the turnover need to be distributed to customers. This information can be derived from somewhere (different other information providers) in SAP BW. That`s why I have build a button in the dashboard, that triggers a process chain (loading procedure in SAP BW), which collects and distributes that information in SAP BW and thus helps making the amount of "not assigned turnover" smaller.

Why is the procedure ad-hoc and cannot be scheduled regularly? Because for some special cases, some information needs to be maintained somewhere in SAP CO by the business and only after completion the load should be triggered.

What do you think of this?

I`ve discussed with my colleagues and they faced similar requirements, where it was necessary to trigger process chains from the frontend, especially while implementing planing solutions.

Does that make sense?

Marcus

Hi Tammy,

still struggling with the new influence site (https://ideas.sap.com/) trying to log an Improvement Request.

It`s not as self-explanatory as it used to be...:)

Anyways, I`ll keep trying.

Thank you + Best,

Marcus

Marcus Preis - we learned yesterday that there's not a place to influence Lumira. I'm so sorry to lead you down that path. Yesterday SAP said this on an ASUG webcast - https://discuss.asug.com/docs/DOC-48590 "closed for this time; review how going forward. not in maintenance mode".

Hi Tammy,

...which is not awesome at all. But thank`s anyways. At least I can stop searching.

Marcus, Geddie - could this be an option for you? See this blog: https://blogs.sap.com/2017/11/08/sap-bi-4.2-sp05-triggering-schedule-in-bi-platform-from-bw-part-2/

Hi Tammy,

thank you!

This looks nice but describes how to trigger an event from a SAP BW process chain on the BI platform. What we are trying to do is to trigger a process chain from a SAP BO frontend tool, like Lumira 2.1. Basically the other way round.

Thank`s anyways.

Best,

Marcus

Marcus,

Did you ever find a solution to this issue? In WAD there is a component that allows you to kick off a process chain and then it can then be monitored with technical content queries but there appears to be no simple solution for this in Lumira.

Geddie
