sybase replication server - MSA - replicate system stored procedures

Hi

In Warmstandby setup using MSA, is it recommended to replicate all system stored procedures or only few? Do we need to enable replication of any system tables?

Kindly advise.

thanks

With SAP/Sybase Replication Server (SRS), warm standby and MSA are 2 completely different setups.

warm standby will replicate all db-level system procs.

MSA will replicate only those db-level system procs specified in the db repdef.

NOTE: In both setups the PDB repagent must be configured with send warm standby xacts = true for any system procs to be replicated.

    ----------

With MSA ... as to what db-level system procs (not) to replicate ... *shrug* ... depends on your requirements.

If you need to maintain different sets of users in the PDB and RDB then you may not want to replicate system procs at all.

If you're using MSA as a DR solution (where the PDB and RDB are *identical*), then you'll likely want to replicate all db-level system procs.

Personally, for MSA, I typically replicate all system procs except sp_config_repagent:

    • I'm not always replicating out of the RDB so I don't want a replicated sp_config_repagent call bringing down my DSI with a message about the RDB not being configured with a repagent
    • if I am replicating out of the RDB I may not be using the same PRS, so I don't want a replicated sp_config_repagent/repserver call to cause my RDB's repagent to be switched to a different PRS

    Thanks Mark.

do we need to skip also the stored procedure sp_start_rep_agent?

Both manuals ... Reference Manual ... Admin Guide Vol 2 ... have sections titled "Supported DDL Commands and System Procedures" that list everything that is forwarded by the repagent to the repserver.

    sp_config_rep_agent is replicated.

sp_start_rep_agent (and sp_stop_rep_agent) are not replicated.
