    Hi Joy,

System Acknowledgement confirms that the message was delivered to the receiver.

Application acknowledgments confirm that the message has been successfully processed at the receiver.

System acknowledgments used by the runtime environment to confirm that an asynchronous message has reached the receiver.

Application acknowledgments used to confirm that the asynchronous message has been successfully processed at the receiver.

    Hi

    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/f4/8620c6b58c422c960c53f3ed71b432/frameset.htm

System acknowledgment is supported..it means that the Receiver RFC will take care only of sending the message to the RFC.But it is least bothered whether it is correctly processed at the R/3 or not.

    Thanks

    Hi,

<i>Receiver adapters support system acknowledgments if they are requested by the server. They are triggered if the message is processed successfully by the adapter. The receiver adapters do not support any application acknowledgments.

    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/8f/d906d01f77fa40a4c84683c3f8326f/content.htm

Receiver adapters that run on the Adapter Engine support system acknowledgments if they are requested by the sender. Acknowledgements are triggered when a message is successfully processed by the adapter or if an error occurs while it is being processed. Receiver adapters do not support application acknowledgments. The RNIF and CIDX adapters are exceptions to this rule, since they also support scenario-dependent application acknowledgments. Sender adapters of the Adapter Engine do not request any acknowledgments</i>

[Abstract of discussion at sdn--nicely explained]
