    Hi Gupta

Not an IS Retail or Retail industry expert. From what I have been exposed to... major differences I know of are:

    - IS Retail was original develop to meet specific needs of Retail industry where standard SD/MM cannot.

    - Significant functionality difference are:

    - Store specific features are built into IS Retail where as it is not in

    standard SD/MM.

    - Mass processing of pricing (some of the retail features were

included as standard SAP as of 4.6)

    - Assortment handling is not in standard SAP

There are other differences in inventory costing/valuation etc.

Retail valuation only available in SAP Retail.

What is known in the trade as the "retail inventory method" or the "retail method" involves valuating stocks at retail, often aggregated at merchandise category or departmental level.

Both the cost method and the retail method can be used in SAP Retail.

Actually IS-Retail is a combination of MM and SD plus other funtionalities speacially developed for the retail industry such as:

    Promotions

    Pricing

    Assortments

    Clasification

    Merchandise category

    Seasons

Is important to mention that all the funtionality of MM and SD is avialable in SAP IS-Retail with some diferences in some transactions:

Material master data (article in retail) has some diferences.

    Vendor master data.

    Site master data.

    Hi Gupta,

Please find some important point and Difference between SAP and IS Retail Below:

Standard sap will suits to any kind of business

and IS(industry specific) was made for specific industry like oil, banking and retail

Eg:- Pantaloon India has implemented SAP IS-Retail.

In this IS u will less enhancements and it like ready for use. That means here all structure are pre-created and as per the business requirements will go for small changes.

Whereas in standard SAP we have understand business process and then prepare doc like blue prints and on that based we will go to create ES, SALES DOC.

IS is nothing but Industry Solution for Retail/telecom/Oil..

Its designed for that specific industry by taking into consideration processes & scenarios..(In short they are ready to use like...)

As far as retail companies are concerned they are more into IS-Retail

which is nothing but Industry solutions for retail

This is similar to SD but more focused on retail industry needs

    See this link

    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp2005/helpdata/en/12/084110470311d1894a0000e8323352/frameset.htm

Most companies use both...to know about companies you can search in sap service website

SAP has got a separate industrial solution for Retailing called IS - Retail. so the chances of implementing SD for a retailing company are very remote as most of the functionality available under SD module doesnÂ’t support Retailing industry.

Though there are quite a few differences between IS Retail and SD module but the basic processes more or less remain the same. It shouldn't be much of a difficulty in switching from SD to IS-Retail (Pricing, Promotions, Sales etc.. are quite similar). You need to comprehend the retail processes then you can know the differences by comparison.

SAP implementations among retailers in India is increasing. There're quite a few retailers in India who have implemented SAP IS Retail, Reliance being the biggest so far.
